Project Ava

High Altitude Balloon Project Based in West Yorkshire run by Anthony Stirk 2E0UPU.

Hardware Overview

AVA is effectively an Arduino just on a custom PCB. Using Arduino boot loader and developed in Arduino enviroment. The GPS on the AVA V1.0 board is an ISM300F2-C5-V0004 surface mounted on the board. Temperature is read using DS1820's (internal and external). Transmission is via NTX2 at 10mW RTTY 50 baud with a 425hz shift. Payload contains a Canon A560 camera running one picture every 10 seconds and a AEE MD91 micro video camera with about slightly over 5.5 hours storage with external power on a 8Gb card. Power for the video is via 4xAAA batteries.

On the first flight the A560 camera managed to take 2800 pictures at one every 10 seconds, before the camera either exhausted its batteries or succumbed to salt water.

AVA is very pink.
