HelioSS 1
HelioSS 1 was a launch carrying experiments from Sponne School in Towcester. It was launched from the CUSF site at Churchill College but not recovered due to loss of position data during ascent.
Flight computer
The flight computer is based on a LPC-H2214 ARM development board from Olimex. It also includes:
- FSA03 uBlox GPS receiver
- Radiometrix NTX-2 radio transmitter
- Several TC77 one-wire temperature sensors
A 12 bit A/D converter is used to provide the signal to the NTX-2, allowing fine frequency adjustment. By adding a temperature sensor mounted directly to the NTX-2, we hope to minimise the usual frequency shift observed as the NTX-2 cools.
Payload
The payload includes:
- Two cameras (a Canon A480 and a Canon A560), both running CHDK
- A thermal experiment measuring the temperature of four targets, each painted a different colour
- An experiment to demonstrate Boyle's Law using party balloons
- A radiation experiment using a medical radiation dosimetry badge
- An experiment to observe the effects of high altitude exposure on Brine Shrimps
