- Self-inflating flexible wing invented by Francis & Gertrude Rogallo in 1948. Also known as the known as the "Rogallo wing" - although this term is most often applied to the version that has an A frame.

**Parafoil** [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parafoil|Parafoil]] - a nonrigid (textile) airfoil with an aerodynamic cell structure which is inflated by the wind.  Developed by Domina C. Jalbert in 1964
