Safety Guidelines

Suggested Guidelines to help improve safety for other air users and the general public.

  • Payloads should be kept small - just a few hundred grams at most.
  • At least 30mm of polystyrene foam (or similar) all round - this not only insulates the payload but adds impact protection.
  • Generally use lightweight materials and components
  • No heavy or rigid structural components
  • Parachutes should be securely attached to the payload - a parcel knot is suggested as a good way of ensuring the payload is attached and can't come apart.

Avoid:

  • Nylon cables ties - they appear to get brittle at low tempretures - avoid use for load carrying applications.
